A Simple New Year's Resolution
As we step into a new year, we're challenged to embrace a resolution that's both simple and transformative: making a change for the better with God's help. Drawing from Philippians 3:12-14, we discover Paul's powerful perspective while chained in a Roman prison—yet remarkably positive because his eyes were fixed on the eternal prize of resurrection and life with Christ. This message invites us to develop three crucial areas of positivity in our lives. First, we need a positive outlook toward life itself, recognizing that we're not products of random chance but beloved creations made in God's image. When our goal is heaven and eternal life with Jesus, every setback becomes a stepping stone, and Romans 8:28 comes alive—all things truly work together for good. Second, we're called to cultivate a positive attitude toward the church, understanding that what the world calls wasteful—our time in worship, our generous giving—are the only things that last for eternity. Finally, we must display positive attitudes toward others, making our church a place of warmth, acceptance, and encouragement in a harsh world. The challenge is clear: will we be positive witnesses who build others up, or will we drag them down? As we journey through this year, we're one year closer to heaven than we were before, and that reality should infuse every day with purpose and hope.
