Football & The Church
What if we approached our faith community with the same intensity and commitment as a championship football team? This powerful message draws an unexpected parallel between the structure of a winning football team and the body of Christ, revealing profound truths about how we're called to function together. Starting with Luke 11:14-23, we're reminded that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, and the same principle applies to our churches today. Just as a football team has an owner who sets the rules and provides everything needed for success, Jesus Christ is our owner who redeemed us with His blood and established the guidelines for victorious living. We're given a playbook, the Word of God, that contains every strategy we need for life's battles. The beauty of this comparison lies in recognizing that every position matters—not everyone can be the quarterback, but the offensive linemen are just as vital to winning the game. Similarly, every member of the church body has a unique role that's essential to our collective success. We're challenged to study our playbook diligently, support our teammates without gossip or division, wear our spiritual armor daily, and remember that we're already on the winning team. The question isn't whether we'll ultimately triumph—Revelation 19 assures us of that—but whether we'll live victoriously today, executing the plays God has called for our lives.
